We envision a society where education is an acknowledged right and reality for all children, specifically in the Ixil region in the Guatemalan highlands of El Quiche. The School for New Mayas (Centro de Formacion Nuevos Mayas) is financially supported by the community. It serves as a model of community involvement for educational centers across Guatemala and Latin America, especially in impoverished areas.
The New Mayas Society provides financial and human resources to impoverished communities of the Guatemalan Ixil highlands, through scholarship support for students at the School for New Mayas in the village of Xix (mapa_Nuevos_Mayas) and for similar bootstrap educational/entrepreneurial programs aiding this indigenous population in the Department of Quiche.
The New Mayas Society is affiliated with Avivara, which acts as its fiscal sponsor. Avivara is a non-profit 501©3 incorporated in the State of Washington and in Guatemala. Qualified donations are tax-deductible.
